Do you remember the story where Jesus and the disciples get into a boat on the Sea of Galilee and then a great storm comes? The disciples are afraid for their lives because the boat is filling with water. Jesus, of course, is soundly sleeping below. When they awake Jesus they ask Him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” After Jesus calms the storm, he asks the disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” God may seem distant from you right now. And His distance may cause you to doubt if He cares. Perhaps you are waiting on an answer from Him. Perhaps you are waiting for Him to provide. Perhaps you are simply waiting for Him to tell you what to do next. I think Jesus was sleeping because he really was tired, but I also think there was a more important intentionality going on- the building of the disciples faith. God does care about your situation, your question, your predicament. And if you don’t have the answer you want right now, if you don’t have the provision you need right now, if you don’t have the direction you are seeking right now, understand that it is intentional on God’s part. He wants to build your faith.
