A Christian’s Treasure

Suppose an angel came to earth and wanted to verify if I was a Christian. Who would I have them interview? Perhaps he could start with the church secretary to see if I went to church regularly. I had perfect attendance, but he found that both lost and saved people alike attend church regularly. Perhaps he could talk with the homeless man outside the church building. But after doing so, he discovered that lost people actually fed him more than I did. Perhaps he could talk with my wife, but all that did was reveal how little I pray. Maybe he could talk with my co-workers, but all they said was that I was a nice person and nice people are easy to come by. After interviewing all of these people he says to me, “I am ready to make my decision, unless you have anybody else I should interview.” I stop to ponder–do I want him to interview my banker and accountant? Would this help or hurt my cause? A pastor once said, “To determine if someone loves Jesus or not, there is no further we need to look than their bank statement.”
