One of the criticisms of the authenticity of the resurrection of Jesus is the fact that resurrections do not happen now. Skeptics will say, “Is it a coincidence that the very time when these things no longer happen is the same time that we have the means and methods to check them in the light of science and careful investigation?” What the skeptics are saying is that it seems ironic that resurrections only took place before we have the ability to test the validity of these claims; if resurrections are possible, then why don’t they happen today? Here is the problem with these claims–they miss the entire point of Christianity. Christianity is not a religion based primarily on scientific proof and historical investigation, but on faith. Jesus doesn’t tell us to believe in the resurrection based on the world’s definition of “proof” but on faith. Faith is how the system works. Jesus never set out to “prove” by scientific and historical means that He was God. He proves He is God by the faith he gives us in our hearts. Faith is the proof that Jesus really did rise from the dead.
