I have been reading in 1 & 2 Samuel and one thing that just appalls me is the way David acts towards Saul–especially in light of how Saul treats David. Saul was constantly pursuing David, lying about him and even tried to kill him on multiple occasions. David, on the other hand, has multiple chances to end Saul’s life, yet he won’t do it. David won’t even speak an ill word against Saul. David maintains his integrity and honors Saul throughout Saul’s reign and death. As a result, David becomes the greatest king in the history of Israel. It was decades later, but God rewarded David’s obedience. I think the same is true for us. Obeying God often seems like a difficult task–especially when we are being opposed. Yet if we are faithful to maintain our integrity, serve God with all our hearts, and trust Him to vindicate us, He will reward us in due time. “And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will”–Acts 13:22. Perhaps the greatest reward would be to hear these words upon the mouth of our God. This week, be a man or woman after God’s heart, who does His will.
