I was reading in Genesis 34 the other day about the defiling of Dinah (Jacob’s daughter). Shechem had violated Dinah, and wanted to take her to be his wife. He asked his father Hamor to get her as his bride. Hamor goes to Jacob, and this is what he says: “Make marriages with us. Give your daughters to us, and take our daughters for yourselves. You shall dwell with us, and the land shall be open to you. Dwell and trade in it, and get property in it. Let me find favor in your eyes, and whatever you say to me I will give. Ask me for as great a bride price and gift as you will, and I will give whatever you say to me. Only give the young woman to be my son’s wife.”
This sounds like a pretty good offer from Hamor….but at what price to Jacob? He would have let his daughter be violated unjustly, lost her, and lost her to an unbelieving man. Satan is very “rich” and can offer you a lot…but at what cost to you? This week, I encourage you to be grounded in the reality that Jesus offers us everything: eternal life…and it cost us nothing…He paid the full price. If you understand this reality, your only response will be to give Him everything.
