We celebrate this week by remembering the most important events in the history of our world: the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Today commemorates Palm Sunday–the day Jesus humbly rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. The part I love most about Palm Sunday is that Jesus is intentionally going to Jerusalem, despite knowing what awaits Him there. Over and over again the Gospel writers tell us that Jesus “set his face toward Jerusalem” (Lk. 9:51, 53). Why is this important? Because Jesus is intentionally going to Jerusalem for one purpose and one purpose alone–to die. And not just to die, but to die for you and me. No one took Jesus’ life from Him (Jn. 10:18). He intentionally rode into Jerusalem to die of his own accord. What kind of man intentionally rides into a place knowing He is going to be killed and willfully choosing to be killed? What kind of man intentionally rides into a city to joyfully give up His life for those who hate Him? A man like Jesus. A man who is our God. What is our response to this kind of knowledge? Joy. Unending Joy.
