I was reading in Revelation a couple of days ago and I came across this verse: “And all who dwell on earth will worship it, everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain.” Rev. 13:8
It occurred to me that we can glean from this verse that the “book of life” was written before this world began and those people who would be saved, their names were written in it before this world began. Just think about that for a moment. Before my parents named me, before they were even born, before my grandparents were born, before my great-grandparents were born, my name was written down in a book thousands, perhaps millions, perhaps billions or trillions of years ago; and if you know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, so was your name written down too. What an incredible thought that our God would write our names down and plan to save us millenniums before we were even brought in existence. I am amazed at the power and faithfulness of our God.
“For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’ calling a bird of prey from the east, the man of my counsel from a far country. I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass; I have purposed, and I will do it.” Isa. 46:9-11
