I was reading Genesis 45 last night and came across something remarkable. When Joseph finally reveals himself to his brothers, he tells them not to worry or be afraid. They should have been afraid since they were the ones who threw their brother down a well and then later sold him off into slavery, telling their father he was dead. But Joseph responds in verse 8, “So it was not you who sent me here, but God.” Joseph is saying I am not here in Egypt as a result of your sin and betrayal. I didn’t get thrown into a well, sold into slavery, wrongfully accused, wrongfully imprisoned, forgotten in prison, and alienated from my family….all of that didn’t happen because of you; it happened because God sent me here.
Many wrong things will happen in our life; some a result of our sin, some a result of others sin, some a result of “accident/chance.” But whatever happens, happens because God is behind the scene orchestrating it all. What Joseph’s brothers meant for evil, God meant for good. And the same is true of you and me. There is nothing so terrible, so wrong, so devastating in your life that God is not orchestrating for your good. I pray you are encouraged by a God like that.
