His Glory, Our Happiness

God says in Isaiah 48:11: “For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it, for how should my name be profaned? My glory I will not give to another.” I was thinking yesterday about how encouraging it is that God cares more about His own glory than we do. At first glance, this statement doesn’t seem all that encouraging, but here is why I think it is. God’s primary focus and concern is His own glory. Our primary reason for existing is to reflect this glory. Therefore, God is going to be relentless in making sure we accurately reflect what He is most passionate about…His own Glory. To do this, He will have to resolve to bring about our sanctification, which is nothing more than becoming like Jesus. Becoming like Jesus is to find our greatest delight in obeying God, which always brings maximum happiness. Therefore, God’s unwillingness to share His glory results in our maximum happiness, which is certainly most encouraging.
