What do people believe happens after we die? Atheists believe in annihilationism, which simply means we cease to exist. Agnostics don’t necessarily have an opinion one way or another because they simply don’t know. Buddhists believe in a rebirth to escape ignorance and Hindus believe in reincarnation until they reach a place of nirvana. Muslims believe in a form of heaven and hell, but it’s determined by whether someone ascribed to Allah, Muhammad, and Islam. Christians believe in heaven and hell based upon our confession and surrender to Jesus. Though it’s not uncommon today for so called Christians to believe in universalism which teaches everyone goes to heaven, or to believe in purgatory, which teaches our souls must be purged before heaven. The real question is not what do people believe happens after we die, but rather what do you believe happens after we die? This is a central question that should permeate our thoughts often. What we believe or don’t believe happens in the next life will have a drastic impact upon how we live in this life.
