We are saying goodbye to Fred and Julia today. I find myself selfishly wishing they would stay at CSBC. I think about the impact they would have on our church, their hearts to serve, their comments which edify, and I don’t want to give those things up. But I am reminded of what Paul said when he was on the beach with the Ephesian elders, as they were praying and crying because he was leaving them forever. Paul reminded them, as Christ had said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive”–Acts 20:35.
We are more blessed as a church to give Fred and Julia to the world, than to receive (keep) them. And so it goes for you. We are always more blessed to give of our life than to receive (keep) our life. I am greatly encouraged today to see two individuals give of their life and to see a church give away two of its loved members. You will be missed Fred and Julia. But we rejoice in your going to make disciples.
