Have you ever heard the phrase, “Random act of kindness”? What is it about kindness that makes it random? And why is it a random act of kindness and not a random act of love, generosity, compassion, or peace? Kindness to a large degree is universal. We may have differing definitions of love, joy or happiness, but when it comes to being kind, we call it for what it is. How does God want us to be kind this week? Perhaps it’s helping an elderly lady with her groceries. Perhaps it’s doing a favor for a friend. Maybe it’s simply telling a co-worker, “Good morning, it’s great to see you today.” All of us are surrounded by an infinite number of potential random acts of kindness, which I would suggest are not random acts at all. Kindness is born out of a heart of love for one’s neighbor. Then when we see a need, we meet it, no questions asked. I want to learn to be more kind this week and I invite you in asking God to help all of us to do so.
