I think sometimes it can be easy to take for granted the fact that we have complete and total access to God’s Word. It wasn’t until the middle of the nineteenth century that most families could read and have their own Bible. Which means that for over 5800 years, the common man could not read the Bible for himself. I was reading 1 Samuel this morning and I came across this: “And the word of the Lord was rare in those days” (1 Sam. 3:1). It occurred to me that this would never be true today. We have God’s Word, and not only His Word, but His Spirit to make His Word alive in our hearts. What an amazing privilege that we all too often take for granted. My encouragement to you is to find God–read His Word and listen to His Spirit. God told His people, “Call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you” (Jer. 29:12-14). I find great encouragement that our God has promised us that if we will but seek Him with all our heart, He will be found by us. We have but eight steps to walk to a bookshelf, and a few power-off buttons to find our God.
