I was reading 2 Samuel 11 & 12 the other day which is the story of David, Bathsheba and Nathan. I was considering all the sins that David had committed in this story: idleness led to lust, lust led to fornication, fornication led to adultery, adultery led to deceit, deceit led to murder, murder led to stealing, and stealing led to hypocrisy. After all of this, the prophet Nathan comes to David and rebukes him in a fashion unlike any other in the Bible. David responds in humility and says, “I have sinned against the Lord.” David knew that based on the Law, he was condemned to die for the sin he had committed. But Nathan tells David, “The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die.” This response should be a resounding encouragement every day we wake up-God has taken away our sin. We are not going to (spiritually) die. We, like David, have sinned and deserve death. But all praise and glory to God who looks upon His Son and tells us, “Your sin is taken away. You shall not die, but live with me forever.”
