Who is considered rich in this world? I guess it’s all a matter of perspective. Only 8% of people in the world own a car. Over 50% of the world lives on $3 a day; the average American lives on $103 a day. 25,000 people die every day due to hunger, many of them children. About 17% of the world has no access to clean water. Everyday 200 million work hours across the world are spent by women collecting water for their family. Americans every year spend 17 billion dollars on bottled water alone, despite 98% of us having clean drinking water. Last Christmas season Americans spent 228 billion dollars-that’s $88,000 every second. If a single person makes minimum wage in Seattle, they are still in the top 5% richest people in the world. These statistics are not intended to foster guilt but rather generosity. Why has God given us so much? It’s not to bless us; it’s so that we can bless others. “You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way” (2 Cor. 9:11). Those who have an abundance have it for the sole purpose of being generous to those who do not.
