Temptation is Everywhere

I received my last issue of Health magazine and like all magazine subscriptions when you receive your last one, they tried to get me to renew. So on the cover they had a picture of a tasty doughnut with icing and sprinkles and the caption read: “Temptation is everywhere.” Therefore renew your subscription. Even the world realizes that if we are to defeat temptation, we need something other than sheer willpower. In this case the idea is that by raising health awareness people will be able to resist that tasty doughnut; and they will resist it by caring more about their physical health than 45 seconds of frosting and sprinkle delight. The same is true in the spiritual world. Do we realize that we cannot defeat temptation apart from the Word of God? And it’s not enough to simply have a subscription – we have to actually read it. Do we desire our spiritual health more than the “apple”? A person who neglects to eat healthy and exercise without ever giving thought to the consequences is no more foolish than a Christian who neglects prayer and reading the Word without ever giving thought to the consequences. We need prayer and His Word to win this battle.
