Well, so called same-sex “marriage” has been made official in the state of Washington. On December 9, 2012, 138 couples were married at Seattle’s City Hall. Some 25 more couples were married at….wait for it….Seattle First Baptist Church. Reading articles about this, I am mixed with emotions of anger and grief; not anger and grief over so called same-sex “marriage”, but anger over sin and grief over their separation from God. I’m really not sure if this is a “sign of the times”. This past week I came across a profound, non-related quote by Will Smith: “Money and Success don’t change people. They merely amplify what is already there.” So called same-sex “marriage” really does not change our state. It merely amplifies the sin problem that is already there. One thing this does mean for us as Christians: perhaps now, more than ever, we are called to stand our ground to speak the truth and to speak it in love (Eph. 4:15). We can’t love people without speaking the truth and we shouldn’t speak the truth without love. Over the next several years the temptation is going to set in to think so called same-sex “marriage” is acceptable. I want to encourage you as your Pastor, do not give in to this temptation. Continue to speak the truth and speak it in love.
