One of the aspects that I love most about God is His willingness to forgive. His forgiveness is what leads to my trust in Him. I think part of the reason we sometimes have difficulty trusting human relationships is that we cannot always trust them to forgive us when we fail. Yet God will always forgive us. When we fail, he will not fail to forgive. And the amazing thing about God’s forgiveness is that it’s not begrudging to Him. He actually delights to show us forgiveness. “Who is a God like you, who pardons sins and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy”–Micah 7:18. Why would somebody enjoy forgiving creatures who offend Him and displease Him all the time? I’m not sure there is an explanation except, He’s God and that’s who He delights to be. What an amazing privilege to serve a God who delights to forgive. That’s a God we can trust.
